Training Module: Finite element simulation of forging technology

With the knowledge and skills acquired at the end of the training module you will be able to understand the role of finite element simulation to model bulk metal forming processes, such as forging, cogging etc. Particularly you will be able to:

  1. appreciate the commercial software tools used to model bulk forming processes
  2. understand the flow behaviour of different materials in bulk forming processes
  3. understand design and optimisation of multi-stage bulk forming processes in 2D
  4. understand how to approach the simulation of more complex bulk forming processes in 3D

The format of the training will be formal lectures using PowerPoint presentation and white board, demonstrations of analyses using QForm metal forming simulation software, small group tutorials and case studies and a course assignment.

The course material and tools include prepared finite element simulations of bulk forming processes. You will learn to create FE simulations of bulk forming processes and analyse the results to draw meaningful conclusions and to improve he forging technology.

Please bring your laptop and forging case to simulate (at least to prepare and start during the training). You will be emailed a datasheet that explains what is specifically necessary to know and have in your hands if you want to run the simulation of your forging job.
